Welcome to the Abernathy Science Education Center!

The William L. Abernathy Science Education Center was constructed with money from a private, charitable trust and named after the benefactor, William L. Abernathy. It opened in September 1996 with a remodel of the existing facility and an expansion project that took place in 2006. The Science Education Center serves approximately 16,000 students, teachers, and community members annually by providing equipment and materials they wouldn''t have access to in their own school/district.

All learning experiences are aligned to the Kansas State Science Standards.

The Science Education Center is comprised of multiple facilities on the campus of Greenbush, including:

• 40-acre Outdoor Learning Site with trails, wetland, lake, and restored prairie grass
• Archaeology Dig
• Biotechnology Learning Labs for 3rd-High School students
• Distance Learning Teaching Studio
• Learning Gardens
• Learning Labs for K-8th grade students
• Mission Space Station
• Production Greenhouse
• PSU-Greenbush Astrophysical Observatory
• Simulated Rainforest

Each component is designed to allow hands-on learning experiences in an informal learning environment.

The staff of the Abernathy Science Education Center believe in bringing science to life for students, teachers, and the entire community. Our motto is simple...making science fun!
