Program Description:
The Greenbush Carl Perkins Consortium historically provides a broad range of vocational and technical initiatives to member districts including incorporating vocational technical education utilizing on-site training,  interactive distance learning and on-line instruction; providing high-tech equipment and requisite training; supporting teacher stipends and scholarships for training; providing support and technology to assist member technical education students in improving their reading and math skills; providing targeted staff development; and providing on-site technical assistance to member districts.

Services we offer:
The Greenbush Carl Perkins Consortium operates under a five-year plan for the 2008-2013 school years. In 2009-10 the Consortium membership includes 54 school districts spread across eastern Kansas. During this five-year time period, the Consortium Advisory Council guides staff and experts to implement and annually update a five-year plan addressing the following activities: Academic and Technical Activities, including the implementation of Career Clusters, Pathways & Plans of Study; All Aspects of the Industry; utilization of ACT Work Keys/WORK Ready Certificate across the curriculum; program improvement, expansion and modernization; program size, scope & quality; inclusion of non-traditional students; articulation/post-secondary linkages; use of technology; professional development; program evaluation; and support of students representing special populations.

How does this benefit schools:
Kansas school districts that operate approved Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs and pathways are eligible for federal Carl Perkins funds which target the improvement of their approved CTE programs/pathways. Districts who are awarded less than $15,000 annually in Perkins funds are required to participate in the grant through a Consortium. The Greenbush Carl Perkins Consortium provides that avenue to 54 school districts across the eastern third of the state. The Consortium consolidates the participating district’s federal Perkins funds and re-distributes the funds to the member districts based on an Annual Plan developed by the Consortium’s Advisory Committee. Funds are distributed to school districts based on a set amount per district for each Perkins activity. Unclaimed activity funds are re-distributed in March to districts that have utilized their initial funds and have incurred additional reimbursable expenses. In addition, the Consortium staff is available to provide one-on-one technical assistance to member districts on any CTE-related issue.

Pricing Information:
Participation in the Greenbush Carl Perkins Consortium requires a school district to annually sign over their Federal Carl Perkins allotment to the Consortium. There are additional costs locally to participate in some Consortium activities, but those costs are reimbursable by the Consortium.
