Program Description: Deaf Education services are provided for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, age birth to 21, who reside in the nine-county area of Southeast Kansas. Services are provided by three teachers of the deaf, three audiologists and 14 sign language interpreters. Services are provided in school and in the home.
Services we offer:
- Audiological evaluation of student’s hearing
- Adapted educational testing of academic development
- Modified instruction commensurate with the child’s ability and language competence
- Sign language instruction
- Monitoring and support of amplification devices
- Instruction in the use of the student’s residual hearing and prevention of additional hearing loss
- Promoting advocacy for the deaf and hard of hearing student
- Speech and language services
How does this benefit schools: Deaf Education services are a cooperative partnership with the 4 area special education agencies which ensures the efficient delivery of specialized educational opportunities, which would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable.

Pricing Information: Kansas Medicaid Provider Fees for deaf education services are covered through the child’s school district if they reside in the nine county area.
