Program Description:
The George York Community School, established by The East Central Kansas Special Education Cooperative, is an alternative school for students who have demonstrated chronic or severe behavioral problems.
The George York Community School is located on the grounds of the Osawatomie State Hospital. The program is administered by the Southeast Kansas Education Service Center at Greenbush and is designed to meet the needs of students from the second through twelfth grades.
The program is built around consistent structure and behavior modification.
- Daily point sheets with behavior goals stated
- Hourly monitoring with feedback
- Daily communication with parents
- Low student - teacher ratio
- Mental health case managers available daily
Services we offer:
The school provides a service for students enrolled in one of the eight membership schools: Paola, Prairie View, Garnett, Louisburg, Pleasanton, Osawatomie, Central Heights, and Jayhawk. Services are for students who are on an IEP and have demonstrated chronic or severe behavioral problems.
How does this benefit schools:
Students who have demonstrated chronic or severe disruptive behaviors that interfere with academic performance of the student or others attend this level program school for a period of time and then transition back into the school.
