Special Purpose School
Program Description:
Since 1977, the Southeast Kansas Education Service Center has had a contractual relationship with Parsons State Hospital and Training Center (PSH&TC) to provide educational services for school aged students who are residents of the State Hospital. The Special Purpose School program serves students with severe behavioral issues including students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. In addition, local school districts and special education cooperatives contract on an individual basis for day school services.
Services we offer:
- Provides educational services to school aged residents.
- Provides educational services for school aged sexual offenders that are residents of PSH&TC.
- Maintains a commitment to serve local school districts and special education cooperatives by accepting their most difficult students when the student’s needs cannot be met in their local school district.
How does this benefit schools:
This service allows public schools time and opportunities to concentrate their efforts on those students who are less behaviorally and academically challenged while their severe population receives intensive services at the Special Purpose School.
