We know that structured reading includes the need for direct, systematic, explicit, and multi-sensory instruction.We will take what you already know about the science of reading to demonstrate how it aligns with evidence-basedmath instruction in the development of mathematicallyproficient students as well as how it can be applied to yourcurrent classroom practices and resources. Similar to Scarborough’s Reading Rope, we will study math’s own rope which intertwines adaptive reasoning, strategic competence,conceptual understanding, productive disposition, and procedural fluency.
