Many school districts today struggle with meeting the therapy needs of students due to shortages or lack of availability of highly qualified therapists. Staff shortages can lead to higher student caseloads and travel responsibilities of therapists already employed by school districts. These situations can directly impact a student’s ability to make progress.
Greenbush Connects is a telepractice program designed to provide specialized services, including occupational and speech-language therapies, via interactive video conferencing. The goal of Greenbush Connects is to increase student access to quality therapy services. Students work online with tele-therapists utilizing materials and resources that are relevant and support their current educational program. Tele-therapists work directly with educational team members to schedule therapy sessions, write IEPs, document therapy sessions, complete progress reports in a timely manner, and attend IEP meetings.
Major organizations such as the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA), the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), and the American Telemedicine Association (ATA) support and recognize the effectiveness of online therapy services.
