What’s Happening in Gifted Education?
You’ve reached the landing page for the Gifted Education Program at Greenbush! We serve students in the Tri-County area through a project based learning program. This page is intended to provide information to parents as well as information for educators.
Computer Science
Explore the complex world of computer science! This exciting technical cohort has big plans for the 2024-2025 school year. While we will continue to learn the languages of scratch, Java/JavaScript, and Python, we will also look at careers that utilize coding in various ways. To kick off the year, we will travel to Wichita to the Shocker Studios, which features an Animation studio, Motion-Capture Studio, and Film and Recording studios.
College Prep
College Prep is all about getting you prepared for college and beyond. This year we will have several different opportunities such as a visit to Kansas State University in September, a college fair, a panel of university students, a Career Fair, job shadowing, and mock interviews. We will also provide resources and opportunities for ACT preparation. If you are interested in mentorships or internships, we will also work with you on that.
Project Based Learning
In this cohort, you will focus on a project of your interest. During the school year, you will focus on the following concepts: leadership, presentation skills, organization, research, project knowledge, and reflection. With this project, you will contact an expert in the field of your interest and interview them. You will also design a prototype of your project and involve the community. Finally, you will present your work at the EXPO on May 7, 2025.
First Lego League
A FIRST LEGO League team focuses on building skills in four main areas: Robot Design, Robot Game, Innovation Project, and Core Values. The 2024-2025 theme is Submerged. As a team, you will innovate new ways to explore and improve life in the ocean. The robot will be programmed to complete missions that will take you on a thrilling adventure of various habitats found in different ocean layers. Throughout all of this, we will work to build a strong team identity where each person contributes and feels valued.
