What’s Happening in Gifted Education?
You’ve reached the landing page for the Gifted Education Program at Greenbush! We serve students in the Tri-County area through a project based learning program. This page is intended to provide information to parents as well as information for educators.
Come learn coding, the language of computers! This exciting technical cohort has big plans for the upcoming school year. This group will be focused on learning about several different computer languages. In particular, we will emphasize how knowledge of coding translates into several different careers that are lucrative and in high demand. Numerous experts who use these computer languages will join us as we all learn coding!
College Prep is all about getting you prepared for college and beyond. This year we will have several different opportunities such as speakers from a variety of careers, a college fair day, reinforcing interview skills, resume writing and references, scholarship searches and application processes. We also help our students who are interested in mentorships or job shadowing to find those opportunities.
Project Based Learning
In this cohort, you will focus on a project of your own interest. During the school year, you will focus on the following concepts: leadership, presentation skills, organization, research, project knowledge, and reflection. With this project, you will contact an expert in the field of your interest and interview them, design a prototype, and share your presentation with an audience. We will visit various businesses in the community and have the chance to listen to guest speakers.
First Lego League Team
A First Lego League team focuses on building skills in four main areas: Robot Design, Robot Game, Innovation Project, and Core Values. This year’s theme is Cargo Connects. As a team, we will learn about how cargo is transported, sorted, and delivered to destinations and create an innovative way of improving this process moving forward. The robot will be programmed to complete missions which incorporate transportation challenges on the playing field with the goal of scoring the most points. Throughout all of this, we will work to build a strong team identity where each person contributes and feels valid.
